CASDDA feels very priviledged to be a member of the IRO (International Rescue Dog Organisation). The IRO was founded in 1993 after the powerful Armenia earthquake of 1988, where it became clear that organisation and unified standards were needed between the various Search and Rescue teams dispatched to help. The IRO is the recognised worldwide umbrella organisation for all national rescue dog organisations dedicated to saving lives. Its primary purpose is to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experience amongst its member organisations, and to insure an international unified testing standard for all dogs and their handlers. The IRO is dedicated to collaboration with the disaster relief organisations of the UN (United Nations), the DHA (Department of Humanitarian Affairs) and INSARAG (International Search and Rescue Advisory Group), and the international canine umbrella organisation, the FCI (Federation Cynologique International). Collaboration with the DHA is especially important as this could ensure that rescue dogs are directly incorporated into general disaster relief at the UN. ____________________________________________________________________
